DELTA

AIR BASEL — 2023

While ART Basel has introduced many great artists to people visiting Miami, it’s failed to do the same for artists who are from Miami. To push against this, we (literally) elevated six local artists by inviting them to treat Delta’s planes like canvases for their creativity.

First, we elevated the artists at 30,000 feet by projection mapping their existing work onto overhead bins during a flight from NYC to MIA.

The cabin was full of gallerists, journalists, critics, art dealers, influencers, and artists from New York who needed a lift to Basel.

Once in Miami, we elevated the artists at a pop-up gallery on the 7th floor of an iconic parking garage three blocks from the convention center.

We CHALLENGED the artists to treat materials from decommissioned Delta planes like canvases and tools TO FILL THE GALLERY WITH ART.

Jillian Mayer used plane wings to make a sculpture in her iconic style.

Olivia Pedigo used propeller blades as a canvas.

Elliot and Erick Jiménez framed their images in cabin windows from an old fuselage.

Emmett Moore created a sculpture with an exit door, landing gear, and wings.

Derek Abella painted MEMORIES OF his CHILDHOOD neighborhood on serving trays.

We used Miami-inspired design language to give the art a cohesive wrapper and make the industrial space our own.

We invited miami to visit the gallery with painted AND printed OUTDOOR MEDIA.

WE teased the art on social by sharing moving content which brought PEOPLE INTO the ARTISTs’ workshops.

And it worked—the art world showed up, people were exposed to new, local artists, and a few pieces were sold.
